The best AI coding assistants

Autocomplete stopped being the interesting part some time ago. What separates these now is how much of a repository a tool can hold in its head, and whether it can run the tests it just broke.

Benchmarks here are easy to game, so we weight what a team can verify in a week on its own codebase over any published score.

What we look at

  • Works across a whole repository, not one open file
  • Runs and reads the test suite before proposing a change
  • States plainly where your code is sent and how long it is kept
  • Reviewable diffs rather than wholesale rewrites
  • Works in the editor your team already uses

Helps if you have it: A public data-handling page naming retention and training, and a real pull request the tool opened.
